Foss Mountain Newborn Session

This newborn session with the Ryan family took me across the state line to beautiful New Hampshire. Around the time of this shoot, the COVID cases were continuing to rise in the northeast corner of the country, so we decided the best option would be an outdoor session. This was fine by me, as I absolutely love it when I get to travel to other places for a session. It’s so fun going to places I’ve never been before, and great when I get to see places I haven’t been to in years! For my session with the Ryan’s, we headed to Foss Mountain just outside of Eaton and near the border of Maine for a lovely evening shoot. The top of the mountain is a relatively easy hike ― when you’re not super pregnant ― with a rewarding 360° view of the rolling hills in the Mt. Washington Valley.

If you live within driving distance of this spot, I highly recommend it whether you’re a photographer or looking to have your photos taken. We didn’t exactly have perfect weather during my time at Foss Mountain, but that doesn’t take away from how amazing the surroundings are! If you can time it right, you’re sure to leave with tons of amazing photos. In the fall the leaves are a rainbow of colors which lends the perfect background for any photo shoot. I’d also highly recommend going in the late afternoon to get a range of lighting as the sun starts to sink lower and lower, hello golden hour!

Being on a mountain top we definitely struggled with the wind, but we managed to use it to our advantage the best that we could! As it started to pick up, this was the perfect opportunity for everyone to hold each other a little tighter. You can see in some of the photos that this little babe was snuggled right into Mama’s shoulder for a while, and then sandwiched right between mom and dad as well! I love this style of photography because they are so natural and full of genuine affection. While you may think it’s better to try and ignore the wind, that “brave face” you’re putting on will probably turn out looking quite silly in the pictures, trust me! The best advice I can give is that you’ll never be able to control certain elements around you, so you might as well incorporate them in! Channel your inner model when those big gusts of wind come and let it add some fun movement to your photos.
