Family Session at the Viles Arboretum
What’s better than running around in a field and making people laugh and dance? Running around in a field with your family and laughing with them! This session with the Grillo’s was very special to me because I was photographing my cousin and her family, and let me tell you, we had way too much fun. The session was in Augusta at Viles Arboretum, another one of the many beautiful parks in Maine. We were so lucky that the fall weather cooperated for these outdoor family photos, it turned out to be such a beautiful night! I don’t normally travel this far North in Maine so it was a great opportunity to explore a new location.
Working with these kiddos was a breeze, partly due to the fact that they know me of course. This is another reason why I love working with clients multiple times, each session gets easier and easier. As you can imagine, working with kids can sometimes be a challenge. I have photographed enough children to know that you can’t really force them to do something they don’t want to do. But that's ok! It's good to let kids be themselves during sessions so we capture their personalities perfectly!
When it comes to my photography style, the less posed the better. I love capturing real moments that occur naturally, and you won’t get those with a forced smile. Instead, you can have a dance party like the Grillo Family! Throw in a tickle fight or a doggie pile and you’ll have some magical photos of your little ones squealing with joy. Then if the kids really start to tire out, ice cream can usually squeeze a few more smiles out of them!
If you’re from Maine and you’re looking for a beautiful spot for a photoshoot, I can’t recommend the Viles Arboretum enough! With spring coming up I can only imagine the beautiful colors that will start to bloom, giving you the perfect backdrop! Even if you don’t go to take photos, it’s a great place to walk around and see some of the stunning nature that Maine has to offer.
