Full Bloom with the Delamater Family - Bridgton Maine
So often, with sessions, I have clients who stress over the details trying to make everything perfect. I’m sure this is no surprise but, perfect is hard (and that's ok!). The Delamater Family made this family photography session near Sebago, ME so easy by going with the flow!
I love working with Emily (mom) and Matt (dad). As an incredibly talented Maine photographer in her own right, Emily totally understands the importance of relaxing in front of the camera and letting pictures happen naturally. Matt is no amateur either! This easy-going approach translates to their kiddos--Rowan and Leo--and resulted in gorgeous pictures for our third family photo session together.
Our original plan was to do an in-home and backyard photography session and capture the details of their house and backyard, but some late-spring rain was supposed to come smack dab in the middle of our session time. Nothing more classic than a Maine day with all four seasons, right? Thankfully, Matt and Emily were adaptable, and we bumped up the start time to before the rain fell and met at the apple orchard a few minutes from their house.
The orchard was in full bloom! I was blown away by how pretty the light was coming through the blossoms, and it turned this fun family photography session into a fairy wonderland. The soft haze of the cloudy sky and the white blossoms provided the kind of scenery you can only get in Maine.
I have trusted my own family photos in Emily’s hands many times, and I am so excited to be able to return the favor. Okay, maybe I was geeking out just a little bit, because she is so talented herself! But, even if you are not professional photographers or actors like Matt and Emily, it’s clear to see how being flexible and not stressing about the small stuff resulted in some truly dreamy pictures.
How cute are Rowan and Leo? The apple orchard provided so many opportunities for them to run, climb, jump, and just be kids. That is my favorite kind of session: when kids and families can just be themselves. That’s what makes family photography so real and beautiful! Whether they laugh and giggle all on their own or I have to crack a few jokes about farts, it doesn’t take much to win kids over in an environment like this one.
If you are worried about your child not smiling, you only have to look at these pictures of Rowan to see how great a picture can be with a serious expression. We caught plenty of silly smiles, but some of the most stunning pictures of the whole day are these of Rowan looking solemn and thoughtful (and mad we were making her put her pink stuffed animal away--ha!).
