Portland In-Home Newborn Session

So many people were affected by the global pandemic, and the Moore Family was no exception! While COVID couldn’t stop this little babe from entering the world, it did push back our session from March to June due to the shutdown. I’ve decided I’m still classifying this as a “newborn” session, even if the little one was not exactly “newborn” by the time I met him. Having the session delayed actually turned out to be really fun, since baby Moore was already a few months old he was developing a bit of a personality which made for some cheeky smiles!

The Moore family’s newborn photography session took place in the family’s home, which always makes for an extra special and intimate photo shoot. Being in your own environment brings so much comfort to people, mix that with some beautiful natural lighting and you have the perfect recipe for amazing photos! The Moore family lives in Portland, Maine near USM, which is where I went to college. They are actually a few houses down from an apartment I used to live in, it was such a flashback being in that area again! Portland actually has the highest population of any town in the state of Maine, and for good reason! The downtown area is situated on a peninsula surrounded by the ocean and has tons of beautiful 19th Century architecture remaining. Yet another perk of the job: getting to revisit amazing places that I haven’t spent time in for years!

During the session mom, dad, and baby were laughing away, but there was one family member that just had to join in on the fun. You guessed it, the Moore’s fur child made an appearance! I say it every time, but I am always so happy to include your pet in a few photos. Not only is this a great memory to look back on one day after your animal is no longer around, but they’re also like an extra natural prop for the photos! I didn’t get many photos of this lovely pup, but I was glad that I was able to snag a few. While not every dog is overly inclined to join in, I had a previous session with the Burr Family and their two Golden Retrievers’ had to be near their new brother at all times! It made for some really beautiful shots of the whole family snuggled up together in bed.
