Fall Mini Session at Pleasant Hill
Another perk of being a photographer is getting to spend time in beautiful places. Here in Maine, we are spoiled with beautiful scenery, whether it’s a rocky coastline, sandy beaches, or forested mountains. One of my favorite locations for an outdoor session is Pleasant Hill Preserve in Scarborough. Pleasant Hill Preserve on Pleasant Hill Road is a rare open space in one of Scarborough’s largest neighborhoods. The historic farmland with a network of trails has absolutely no shortage of photo opportunities, not to mention the trails are stroller friendly! I was lucky enough to shoot 12 mini sessions there this year and 12 last year too!
My session at Pleasant Hill with the Golden Family turned out perfectly. The fall weather was mild, and mom, dad and Charlie had such great outfits. I try to mention to my families the importance of wearing complementing colors and styles, and the Golden’s did not disappoint. Their daughter Charlie was so cute trudging around in her little socks and sandals! Little miss was going through a serious mama’s girl phase, so we had to do a bit of improvising to get the one on one shots of her and dad.
I always say that there is nothing worse than a photo that looks forced, especially when it comes to photographing children. This is why it’s a great idea to have your kiddo’s favorite toy on hand! Charlie had her stuffed bear with her and hardly let go of it the entire time, except for a short time when Dad held on to it too (which I LOVE in the photos as well!) Not only does the toy provide comfort to your child during the session, but it also makes the photos so much more personal. One day they will be able to look back at these photos and remember this specific time in their lives when a plush bear was the only thing standing between a smile and a tantrum!
